A Look Back at the Love Yourself Era
The Love Yourself era was a time of transformation for BTS, both as a group and as individuals. From their groundbreaking albums to their record-breaking world tour, BTS captivated audiences with their signature blend of pop, hip-hop, and R&B, while exploring themes of self-love and personal growth.
The era began with the release of their mini album “Love Yourself: Her” on September 18, 2017. The album included hit singles like “DNA” and “Mic Drop” and marked a shift towards a more pop-oriented sound for the group.
“Love Yourself: Her” was a commercial and critical success, debuting at #7 on the US Billboard 200 and earning BTS their first ever nomination for the Billboard Music Award for Top Social Artist. The album also won Album of the Year at the 2017 Melon Music Awards and Album of the Year (4th Quarter) at the 2017 Gaon Chart Music Awards.
The “Love Yourself” era also saw the release of the group’s third full-length album, “Love Yourself: Tear,” on May 18, 2018. The album featured a mix of pop, hip-hop, and R&B influences and explored themes of self-love and personal growth. It included hit singles like “Fake Love” and “Anpanman.”
“Love Yourself: Tear” debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200, making BTS the first Korean act to achieve this feat. The album also earned BTS their first ever nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Recording Package.
In addition to the success of their albums, BTS also embarked on the “Love Yourself” world tour, which began in Seoul in August 2018 and included stops in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. The tour attracted over 2 million fans and grossed over $170 million, making it one of the highest-grossing tours of 2018.
During the “Love Yourself” era, BTS also won numerous awards, including Top Social Artist at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards and Artist of the Year at the 2018 Mnet Asian Music Awards. “Fake Love” also won Best Music Video at the 2018 Melon Music Awards and Song of the Year at the 2018 Korean Music Awards.
