Jin (whose full name is Kim Seokjin) was born on Dec. 4, 1992, in Gwacheon, South Korea. He is the oldest member of the group and the first member to begin mandatory military service in South Korea.
Often referred to as “Worldwide Handsome,” Jin joined the group in 2013 as one of the four main vocalists. In 2017, Jin graduated from Konkuk University in South Korea, according to a tweet from BTS’ official Twitter page, with a degree in acting and art.
Jin also serves as the BTS in-house chef. He co-owns the Japanese restaurant Ossu Seriomushi in Seoul, South Korea, and earlier had his own food-related web series, Eat Jin. He took advantage of his time away from BTS by returning to the kitchen and learning how to prepare food from well-known chef and South Korean television personality Lee Yeon-bok.
In October 2022, Jin published the solo song “The Astronaut,” which he co-wrote with Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
In South Korea, almost all able-bodied males are required to complete 18 months of military service by the time they turn 28 years old. Jin began his mandatory military duty in late 2022 and is scheduled to continue until June 2024. I’m having fun,” he wrote in a WeVerse post in January to provide ARMY with an update on his tenure.
According to the South Korean military, Jin has been chosen to work as an assistant teacher at the Yeoncheon army base in northern Gyeonggi province.
